Located in the University City neighborhood in West Philadelphia, Penn’s campus is a short walk or bus ride away from Center City. With various historical sites, museums, and restaurants, Philadelphia offers locals and tourists alike various venues to interact with Philadelphia’s vibrant arts and cultural scenes.

By Air

If you plan on flying in, the closest airports and transportation information are listed below.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is about a 20-minute drive to campus (TransportationDirections)

Coming to Penn from the Philadelphia Airport: We recommend using a taxi ($32 flat rate plus extra charges for each additional passenger) or a rideshare service from the airport to get to University City, where you will find Penn and the Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel. This is particularly recommended after dark. Alternatively, you can take the Airport Regional Rail Line and get off at either Penn Medicine Station or William H. Gray III 30th Street Station. The cost is $6.75 if you purchase a Quick Trip using cash, credit, or a debit card from the SEPTA Key Fare Kiosk located at each Airport Line Terminal Stop. Fare can also be purchased onboard the train for $8 in cash or by credit card.

John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is about a 2.5-hour drive to campus (Transportation Directions)

Shuttle Service from JFK to Philly: A shuttle service operates daily (12:40 PM everyday and 11:50 PM three times per day) from JFK Airport #1 and downtown Philadelphia, with a one-way fare of $70. The trip duration is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Please get off at the Chinatown, PA stop, and take a taxi or use a rideshare service to get to the Penn campus or your hotel. To secure your spot, please make a reservation here, as availability is limited.

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is about a 2-hour drive to campus (Transportation Directions)

By Train

Trains are a quick way to get to Philadelphia from NYC and is only a 1.5-hour ride.

Amtrak leaves from New York Penn Station and stops at William H. Gray III 30th St. Station (Directions)

NJ Transit leaves from New York Penn Station and stops at William H. Gray III 30th St. Station (Directions)

Coming to Penn from 30th Street Station: Once you arrive in Philadelphia, the campus can be reached from William H. Gray III 30th Street Station by cab, Uber, Lyft, or by walking (a fifteen-minute walk from Sheraton Hotel and the heart of campus). We recommend using a taxi or a rideshare service to get to Penn campus after dark. You can click the 'Directions' link to get specific navigation from the train station to the Sheraton Hotel.

By Bus

Buses are an affordable and convenient choice for travel from NYC to Philadelphia, and the trip takes around 2 hours. You can click the 'Directions' link to get specific navigation from the bus station to the Sheraton Hotel.

Megabus leaves from the NYC Megabus Stop at 34th St. & between 11th and 12th Ave. and stops in Philadelphia at 6th St. & Market St. (Directions) OR the Northeast Corner of Schuylkill Ave. & Walnut St. (Directions). We recommend choosing the Schuylkill Avenue & Walnut Street stop, as it is closer to campus.

Flixbus leaves from NYC Midtown at 31st St. & 8th Ave. and stops in Philadelphia at 6th St. & Market St. (Directions)

Greyhound leaves from NYC Midtown at 31st St. & 8th Ave. and stops in Philadelphia at 6th St. & Market St. (Directions). It also leaves from NYC Port Authority (625 8th Ave.) and stops in Philadelphia at 1001 Filbert St. (Directions). The time to get to the hotel from either of the Philadelphia bus stops is about the same.
