WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS, Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures – Assistant Professor


The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in Korean Cultural Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the fall semester of 2020. A Ph.D. in Korean literature or a related field at the time of appointment and native or near-native fluency in both Korean and English are required.  Candidates with expertise in performance studies, broadly defined, are particularly encouraged to apply, but the candidate should be willing to contribute to any of the following programs: East Asian Studies, Film and Media Studies, Performing Arts, Comparative Literature, Women and Gender and Sexuality Studies, Religious Studies, and the university's growing interest in digital humanities, medical humanities, and Asian-American Studies. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching and research in Korean language and literature or culture. Duties will include teaching assigned courses at the graduate and undergraduate level (normally two per semester), maintaining an active research and publishing program, and advising students.
