Degree and area of specialization:
Master's degree required in Korean language or linguistics, applied linguistics, language education, linguistics, second language acquisition, or a related field. PhD in one of these areas preferred. Native or near-native fluency in Korean and professional competency in spoken and written English required.
At least one year experience teaching Korean as a foreign or second language at the college level required, three years experience preferred. Experience teaching Korean at the postsecondary level in the United States preferred. Experience in Korean language program coordination, language assessment, curriculum development or technology-enhanced instructional design desired. ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) Tester training in Korean desired.

The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures and Language Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invite applications for the position of Assistant Director and Head Instructor for the new UW-Madison Korean Flagship, an innovative undergraduate program funded by a grant from the National Security Education Program of the U.S. Department of Defense to provide U.S. undergraduate students in any major the opportunity to reach a professional level of competence in Korean by graduation through intensive study at UW-Madison and overseas. The Korean Flagship Assistant Director will develop and teach proficiency-based Korean language courses, oversee the Korean Flagship tutoring program, direct the intensive Korean summer program, and provide advising and mentoring for Korean Flagship students. The Assistant Director will also serve in a leadership role in the administration of the Korean Flagship Program, working in collaboration with a team of faculty and staff at the UW-Madison and with key partners of the Korean Flagship in the United States and overseas.
(50%) Teaching: Teach two Korean language courses per semester during the academic year. Design and teach new advanced, proficiency-based courses to prepare students for the Korean Overseas Flagship capstone program at Korea University. Prepare syllabi, develop or adapt teaching materials, hold office hours, conduct assessments.
The desired start date for this position is January 1, 2019, but may be adjusted to a later date if necessary.
