Assistant Professor of Korean Literature

The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Korean Literature, position number 84559.  Appointment to begin August 1, 2019, pending  position clearance and availability of funds.


Permanent, tenure track appointment.


Duties: Responsibilities of the position include teaching survey and upper-level undergraduate courses in Korean literature and culture, and introductory language courses as needed; teach MA- and PhD-level courses in Korean literature and culture, including literary theories and/or authors, and/or critical issues and movements in Korean literature; advise undergraduate majors and graduate students in the Korean program; successfully conduct and publish scholarly research in area of specialization; contribute to departmental and university service; other duties as assigned.  



Minimum Qualifications:

            Ph.D. in modern or contemporary Korean literature, or closely related field, from a college or university of recognized standing. ABD will be considered, but all requirements for degree must    be completed by August 2019. 

High levels of proficiency in Korean and English;

Established strong commitment to excellence in teaching and service;

Evidence of scholarly achievement in the field;

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff, and administration.


Desirable Qualifications

            Ability to develop new courses in Korean culture, literary history, and interdisciplinary fields.
