The Department of Asian and Slavic
Languages and Literatures in the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and
Cultures at the University of Iowa invite applications for a Lecturer in Korean
language for fall 2012. Lecturer positions are academic-year, term faculty
appointments, with summer session appointment possible on the same basis as for
other faculty. Although they are not tenure-track, Lecturers are considered
regular (not temporary) faculty. The appointments are initially for one
academic year, renewable up to three years, with subsequent three-year
appointments possible, subject to satisfactory review. Korean has been taught
at Iowa for several years, and we are seeking a dynamic, progressive-thinking
colleague to develop a growing program. The Department and Division are
committed to expanding offerings in East Asian languages, with Korean playing a
key role. An M.A. in language acquisition or Korean language pedagogy is
required, and a Ph.D. is preferred. Also required are native or near native
fluency in Korean and competency in both spoken and written English. Candidates
should have experience in teaching Korean language to English-speaking students
at the college level. Responsibilities also include coordinating Korean
language courses and developing a Korean minor or certificate in the
Department. The ability to teach courses in either Korean linguistics or Korean
popular culture is desired. Candidates must send
